***New Event*** Chinese New YearSaturday, February 8 10 AM-5 PM Celebrate the ?Year of the Sheep? at the Children?s Museum of Virginia. Activities will feature authentic costumes, music, kite making, paper folding, calligraphy, Hui Chun, Tai Chi demonstrations, a traditional lion dance performed by the Chinese Community Association, and Chinese artists.
***New Event*** Olde Towne Tastings Friday, April 25 & Saturday, April 26 5-10 PM Friday; Noon-5 PM Saturday At the newly renovated Holiday Inn-Olde Towne. Sample the best of Virginia wines from a select group of wineries, plus gourmet food & live jazz. Compare California vs. Virginia wines in the East-West Challenge; and enjoy Saturday seminars by Dr. Roy Williams. Admission.
First Citizen of Portsmouth Monday, May 5 6 PM Held at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel, this event celebrates the volunteer spirit with a banquet and award in honor of Diane Pomeroy Griffin, chosen for contributions made to the City of Portsmouth. Admission.
Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 26 11 AM A Portsmouth tradition since 1884; the oldest, continuous parade in the nation marches along Crawford Street, from Columbia Street to Washington Street, with a reviewing stand at High Street. Rain or shine. FREE.
Cock Island Race Friday, June 20-Saturday, June 21 5 PM Friday-11 PM Saturday Called the ?Best Sailing Party on the East Coast? by landlubbers as well as sailors, this waterfront classic opens Friday evening at North Landing, Olde Towne Portsmouth with a Skipper?s meeting & party; Saturday is Race Day on the Elizabeth River, ending with the awards ceremony & musical entertainment, food & fun. Admission fee for race participants.
Olde Towne Holiday Music Festival Saturday, December 13 Noon-8 PM Portsmouth celebrates Holidays in the City with the best of local & regional music groups, choirs & musicians featured in venues along Olde Towne High Street. Bonfires, street entertainers, shops open late & free museums. FREE.
